Homemade Hot Chocolate recipes

Who doesn’t love a good cup of hot chocolate, nothing makes you quite relive your youth like it. Winter’s worth it if it means warming up with hot chocolate.

Here are a few recipes you can try at home, especially if you’re tired of what’s on offer at your local super market.

 

Snow Flake Cocoa

Time : 2 h 35 m           Serves : 10 servings

A rich, creamy cocoa for white chocolate-lovers! This is easy to make in your slow cooker.

You Need :

 

Directions :

  1. Stir together the whipping cream, milk, vanilla, and white chocolate chips in a slow cooker.
  2. Cover and cook on low for 2 to 2 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally, until mixture is hot and chocolate chips are melted. Stir again before serving. Garnish with whipped cream and candy canes / sprinkles, as desired.

 

Creamy Hot Cocoa

Time : 7 m            Serves : 4 servings

It’s old fashioned, it’s comforting, it makes the kitchen smell wonderful and it’s good for the soul.

You Need :

 

Directions :

  1. Combine the cocoa, sugar and pinch of salt in a saucepan. Blend in the boiling water. Bring this mixture to an easy boil while you stir. Simmer and stir for about 2 minutes. Watch that it doesn’t scorch. Stir in 3 1/2 cups of milk and heat until very hot, but do not boil! Remove from heat and add vanilla. Divide between 4 mugs. Add the cream to the mugs of cocoa to cool it to drinking temperature.

 

Hot Chocolate, Slim

You Need :

Directions :

Stir coconut water and dark chocolate together in a saucepan over medium heat until chocolate melts. Sift cocoa powder into the chocolate mixture, stirring constantly, until mixture simmers, about 5 minutes. Pour into mugs and top with marshmallows.

 

Mexican-Style Hot Chocolate

Time : 15 m            Serves : 12 servings

Warm and creamy; simple chocolate flavors with a hint of cinnamon.

Directions :

Whisk cold water, sugar, cocoa powder, flour, cinnamon, cloves, and salt in a saucepan until smooth. Place over low heat; bring to a simmer, whisking constantly, until mixture is thickened and hot, about 4 minutes. Stir in milk; heat until hot chocolate just forms bubbles around the edge. Mix vanilla extract into hot chocolate. Blend until smooth with an immersion blender to make the drink slightly frothy.

 

Cookies and Cream Hot Chocolate

Serves : 2 Servings

If you love Oreos, you will adore this drink. It’s like drinking liquid Oreos. Well, I guess that doesn’t sound that appetizing, but it is. It totally is.

You Need :

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup hot chocolate mix (homemade or store-bought)
  • 6 Oreo cookies
  • whipped cream for garnish, optional
  • additional crushed oreos for garnish, optional

Directions :

In a small saucepan, heat milk until very hot but not boiling. Alternately, you can heat the milk in the microwave. In the pitcher of your blender, add hot milk, oreos and hot chocolate mix. Pulse until cookies are completely ground and there are no large pieces. Pour into two mugs and garnish with whipped cream and crushed cookies, if desired.

Cookies and Cream Hot Chocolate is best served immediately.

 

Red Velvet Hot Cocoa

Single Serving

This single serving hot cocoa is quick, easy, and takes a BIG bite out of that sweet tooth, and its red!

You Need :

  • 1 cup of skim {or 1% milk}
  • 1/2 cup of chopped bittersweet or semi-sweet chocolate {chocolate chips work well}
  • 1 – 1 1/2 tsp red food coloring
  • 1 tsp vanilla

 

For the whipped cream:

  • 1/4 cup of heavy cream
  • 1 Tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

Directions :

  • Heat the milk over medium
  • Whisk in the chocolate, and stir until melted
  • Stir in the food coloring and the vanilla
  • Whip the cream with the sugar and vanilla
  • Serve the hot chocolate topped with whip and chocolate shavings

 

Cheese Cake Hot Chocolate

Time : 15m          Serves : 2

This white hot chocolate from scratch tastes just like cheesecake in a cup without having to wait for a whole cheesecake to bake. Cheesecake craving satisfied in 15 minutes? Done.

You Need :

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ounces white chocolate, chopped
  • 2 ounces cream cheese, room temperature* and cut into 16 pieces
  • Graham cracker crumbs and whipped cream, for garnish

Directions :

In a medium saucepan, warm up the milk over medium heat until hot but not boiling. Turn the heat down to low then whisk in the vanilla cream cheese until melted. Whisk in the white chocolate until melted and smooth. Serve immediately** with whipped cream and graham cracker crumbs on top, if desired.
